Meet your Interpreter / Forensic Interviewer
Melissa Lopez is a bilingual Forensic Interviewer whose passion for protecting children began in an 11x11 interrogation room, where she served as the interpreter for a detective investigating a child sexual abuse case. For four hours, she sat alongside the detective as the interview unfolded. That experience left a lasting impact on her life.
In that moment, she knew she wanted to dedicate her career to advocating for children, helping them find their voice, and ensuring they were heard. It was there that her journey toward becoming a Forensic Interviewer began.
In 2018, Melissa began assisting with suspect interrogations and providing interpreting services for forensic interviews involving Spanish-speaking children and families. Through this work, she gained firsthand experience supporting multidisciplinary teams and helping bridge language and cultural barriers during sensitive child abuse investigations.
In 2022, Melissa became a RADAR-certified Forensic Interviewer and has since conducted more than 300 forensic interviews with children using a trauma-informed, child-centered approach. Her commitment to creating a safe and supportive environment allows children to share their experiences while maintaining the integrity of the investigative process.
Throughout her career, Melissa has had the privilege of providing interpreting and translation services for children, families, law enforcement agencies, Child Advocacy Centers, mental health professionals, and multidisciplinary teams. Her experience includes interviewing suspects, assisting investigators with complex cases, supporting international child sexual abuse investigations as both a Forensic Interviewer and investigator, and transcribing investigative recordings.
Melissa’s unique combination of forensic interviewing, investigative support, interpreting, translation, and cultural competency allows her to effectively serve diverse communities while ensuring children and families have access to services in their native language. Her work is driven by a deep commitment to advocacy, justice, and giving a voice to those who need it most.
